| This course provides students with basic knowledge of quality customer services in the travel and tourism industry. |

This course is offered to cater for the diverse and special learning needs of students with varied interests, aptitudes and abilities. It is able to develop students' generic and career skills as well as values and attitude in planning for life long learning or future development. More importantly, it motivates students' problem solving, decision making, analytical and critical thinking skills.
This course has been offered by Caritas Bianchi College of Careers (CBCC) in mixed mode operation since the 2004/06 cohort. Details are as below:

Caritas Community and Higher Education Service recognizes the qualifications obtained by the students who successfully complete this course as equivalent to one HKCEE pass for admission to other Caritas programmes.
Upon successful completion of the course, students can be admitted to the first year of the Associate Degree in Hospitality Management programme or the BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) in Hospitality Foundation Programme offered by CBCC. Graduates of the Associate Degree programme, upon successful completion of a number of specially designed BTEC units offered by CBCC, will also be eligible for the award of BTEC HND in the related discipline. Thus, graduates will have a dual award qualification – Associate Degree and BTEC HND .
Students of the Associate Degree in Hospitality Management / BTEC HND in Hospitality Foundation programme will take part in the “Certificate Course for Outbound Tour Escorts” organized by the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong (HKTIC), in order to strengthen the basic knowledge and skills of Outbound Tour Escorts. Graduates will be granted the “Certificate for Outbound Tour Escorts” without working experience. In addition, practical training would be arranged for students in hotels, hostels, restaurants and travel agencies for 8 to 10 weeks, so that they can have better understanding of the hotel and tourism industry.
Graduates of the Associate Degree / BTEC HND in Hospitality are eligible for admission to the final year of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Management/Bachelor of Hospitality Management of The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK). The said programmes will be conducted by CBCC and some seminars will be held at the OUHK.
Also, they can gain direct access to the second or third year of the relevant degree programmes (first year or second year for the HND graduates) of all universities in the U.K., the U.S.A., Australia and Canada including the following:
• University of Huddersfield (U.K.)
• University of Sunderland (U.K.)
• Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies (U.K.)
• Southern New Hampshire University (U.S.A.)
• International College of Hotel Management (Australia)
• International Hotel Management Institute (IMI) (Switzerland)

Graduates of the course are also able to take up employment within the hotel and tourism industry. Employment opportunities include shipping, ferry, and cruise companies, airports, airlines, coach companies, accommodation providers, visitor attractions, site guides, tourist information centres, tour operators (domestic, incoming and outbound), tour guides, travel agencies, exhibition and conference centres. |

The curriculum is organised in a way that close coherence between each topic is achieved. Basic concepts and theories will be covered in early stage of the course in order to pave the way for higher-level learning. Practical sessions and critiques will be arranged to take place in the later stage. |

In designing the course, a combination of classroom lectures, case studies, assignments, discussions and site visits are used. This can ensure that an interactive and systematic approach is adopted in focusing the use of different techniques in achieving the aims and objectives of the course. Such techniques include both theoretical and practical aspects, and students are encouraged to use case studies for developing their critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. They are required to present their analysis of case studies and other related project assignments during lectures.
Site visits are also organized to expose them to the operational practices of hotel and tourism industry in Hong Kong. |

The COC course – Fundamental Travel and Tourism Services was initially launched in the Yaumati Campus of CBCC. Facilities include Library, Classrooms equipped with advanced multi-media, Language Laboratory, PC Computers Rooms, Macintosh Computer Room, Free Access Computer Room, Typing Rooms, Training Bar, air-conditioned Training Kitchen, etc.
In order to enhance teaching effectiveness, CBCC has invested huge funds in installing advanced facilities in the past years. Newly-purchased teaching equipment include colour video presenters, colour direct projectors, LCD projectors, DVD machines, VCR machines, computer aids for presentation, flat copy machines, electrical screens, portable drafting boards, drawing stands, skeleton and other sculptures for drawing lessons, digital cameras, knitting machines, sewing machines, garment construction accessories, and built-in T-ruler white boards, hat making models, lamination machines, colour copier, fabric printer, plotter, etc. |
