Mainland Project
We have been engaging in educational projects in the Mainland ever since the late 1970s and have built up links with counterparts in the field of adult education in almost every province in the Mainland. In order to strengthen adult education development of and exchanges between the Mainland and Hong Kong, the Mainland Educational Projects and Information Unit (MEPIU) was founded in April 1997, and partnership in project development with Shenzhen Far East Professional Training Centre was established in 2001. In view of China's rapid social and economic growth, there is a need to further extend our service provision to the Mainland and to increase collaboration with the local counterparts.
Our service direction is three-pronged:
To establish more focused partnerships and strengthen the existing ones with the Mainland counterparts
To organize more collaborative projects in various learning areas, such as exposure and exchange programmes
To offer services to the poorer parts of the country, as a supportive partner in their educational development
Our recent efforts can be broadly drawn into the following areas:
Training of Trainers
Workshops and training seminars were held in Gansu and Guangxi to cater for the needs of teachers/administrators in adult basic education. A training project for teachers of discharged inmates of Fujian is endeavoured to develop into a national initiative to facilitate the growth and realize the concept of social inclusion and sustainable development.
Development of Learning Programmes to Cater for Specific Learning Needs
Education programmes for learners with specific needs include the social integration and training for inmates in Fujian and school assisting scheme for victims of snow storms in Inner Mongolia. The OPAL Project has been jointly organized with the Shanghai Television University to promote adult learning for older people.
Collaborations with Community Colleges and Universities
In view of the increasing needs of student exchange and programme links between CCHES and the community colleges and universities in the Mainland, collaborations in some specific programme areas and activities have been established with a number of community colleges and universities.
Formulation of a Mutually Recognized Quality and Qualification Framework for Adult Education
A project to work on the development of a coherent framework to assess qualifications of selected adult education and training courses taken places in both Hong Kong and the Mainland has been carried out in collaboration with the Beijing Vocational Training Centre and Beijing Vocational Skills Assessment Centre.
